Walking Football For People With Parkinson's And Similar Conditions
Based in Worcestershire
An inclusive football family of friendship and fun - making strides towards positive well-being
Neuro Walking Football Worcestershire was set up in January 2022 to encourage people with neurological conditions, particularly Parkinson's, to keep active with Walking Football, whilst providing a safe, social and supportive environment focusing on fun, inclusivity and friendship.
Our qualified coach and physiotherapist provide the perfect platform for working on player fitness, football skills, fun and enjoyment with consideration for the safety of all involved
Our members - playing and non-playing -are the heart and soul of the club. We pride ourselves on our belief in inclusivity and a warm welcome awaits anyone wishing to give us a go
Our coaching staff is made up of experienced and dedicated professionals who are passionate about sports and about helping athletes achieve their goals. All of our coaches are trained in the latest sports science and coaching techniques, and are committed to ongoing professional development
This slower version of football suits players with reduced mobility and the 50+ age group very well. It alters the dynamic of playing, encouraging passing to feet over travelling with the ball
Physical contact is discouraged which, combined with the slower pace of the game, means a reduced risk of injuries
The walking football community tends to be very inclusive, and that is certainly true of Movers and Shakers FC. Whatever your age, experience, ability, mobility or gender, you are welcome at this club
We are all living with Parkinson's or similar neurological conditions, so we understand what a struggle it can be, and we give players the time to play at their own pace
Playing walking football in a large group provides a perfect regular opportunity to get out and about and mix with fellow Parkies
Exercise is the key treatment recommended by all neurological health care experts. It can slow the progression of Parkinson's, and studies suggest that it helps to create new neural pathways and remap the brain. Regular participation in walking football is therefore an excellent cornerstone of a Parkinson's treatment plan, all the more so because it's great fun!
We are proud winners of the Walking Football Association's Impairment Team of the Year award for 2022. If you have a neurological condition and want to fight it, rather than give in to it, you will get a warm reception at Movers and Shakers FC
Players of all ages and levels of ability are welcome, as well as supporting partners and carers
Every Wednesday, in all but the harshest conditions and with the exception of the occasional away day, we meet at the Worcester Raiders FC ground, Claines Lane, Worcester, WR3 7SS
We play from 1030-1200 and then have refreshments and friendly chat in the clubhouse afterwards
Partners/family/carers are all welcome
